Japan's prime minister to urge Okinawa's acceptance of U.S. Marine base plan | Sacramento Bee

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said Friday he would make every effort to persuade the Okinawa prefectural government to accept a plan to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station within the prefecture.

"People in Okinawa strongly hope to avoid the Futenma base becoming permanent," Noda said at a press conference shortly before leaving New York. "I'll do my utmost to explain the government's stance."
