National:Futenma noise readings prompt Okinawa Pref. to check decibel levels in classrooms

The Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education will require all prefectural schools to regularly check noise levels inside their classrooms from fiscal 2013 on, it has been learned.

The decision follows a finding by the University of the Ryukyus that the noise levels inside classrooms of Futenma No. 2 Elementary School, adjacent to U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, topped 100 decibels during takeoff and landing of U.S. military aircraft.
