A nuclear catastrophe could destroy us anytime. Because we have learned to live with nuclear weapons for 68 years, we have become desensitized to the gravity and immediacy of the threat.

Comment: Giving the nuclear football (the briefcase with all the launch codes) to the same person they gave a Nobel Peace Prize to for doing absolutely nothing sure as hell doesn't make me feel any safer either. We are living in perilous times and are too numbed by Prozac and watching Dancing with the Stars to care.
