Tropical Storm 22W (Fitow), # 2: Okinawa in crosshairs? - Pacific Storm Tracker - Stripes

10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, Japan time: Fitow strengthened into a tropical storm overnight Monday and the latest Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecast track indicates it might deliver at least a glancing blow to Okinawa come the weekend.

JTWC projects Fitow to pass 72 miles east of Kadena Air Base at around 10 p.m. Saturday, packing sustained 80 mph winds and 98 mph gusts at its center, a Category 1-equivalent typhoon.

That could change, since Fitow is still a relatively new storm and computer models aren’t agreeing over Fitow’s forecast track. Kadena’s 18th Wing Weather Flight’s long-range outlook for Saturday calls for scattered showers and winds gusting up to 30 mph.

PST will keep a sharp lookout.

Comment: Compared to the three monsters we had last year, this one sounds like a wimp! BTW, what the hell kind of name is Fitow? "Fit sounds like something a two year old does right before mom or dad applies the board of education to the seat of learning and the "Ow" is the results of said meeting of the minds....
