Kennedy's meeting with emperor to be broadcast live on TV ‹ Japan Today: Japan News and Discussion

Caroline Kennedy will meet Emperor Akihito on Tuesday afternoon in a ceremonial formality as she takes up the U.S. ambassador post, just days ahead of the 50th anniversary of her father’s assassination.

Kennedy, 55, the lone surviving child of John F Kennedy, is to be taken to the imperial palace in a horse-drawn carriage, in an elaborate procession accompanied by palace officials dressed in European-style ceremonial attire.

She will briefly meet with the emperor and hand him a letter from Washington confirming her status, a common diplomatic gesture by top envoys to Japan.

Her appointment has drawn significant media attention in Japan with broadcasters promising live coverage of the event which starts around 3 p.m.

Comment: Jeeeez! With all this hoopla, you'd think that this is the second coming of Christ??? The last 40 or 50 American Ambassador's to Japan didn't get live television coverage of their delivering a formal letter to the Emperor and don't give me that crap that she's more photogenic than her predecessor, everybody was but, have you seen the wrinkles on old girl??? Her face looks like the DC road map for crying out loud. So what's the deal here??? Oh yeah, that's right, in addition to formally endorsing the ObamaNation of Desolation as spoken of by the profit Daniel for president over Saint Hillery, she's also a charter member of the lucky sperm club... Whoopie shit! I just hope they don't cut into coverage of the Aki-Basho Sumo tournament!
